When Will the Fourth Round of Iran–U.S. Talks Begin?
WANA (May 11) – The fourth round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States is set to take place today, Sunday, May 11, in Muscat, Oman’s capital.
The Iranian delegation, which had briefly returned to Tehran from Doha last night for consultations before heading to Muscat for the next phase of negotiations, has departed Tehran for Muscat.
This latest round follows three previous sessions held in Muscat and Rome, centered on nuclear issues and the lifting of U.S. sanctions.
The first round of these indirect negotiations between Iran and the U.S., mediated by Oman, was held on April 12 in Muscat, and the second round of talks took place in Rome on Saturday, April 19, again with Oman as the intermediary. The third round of talks, which took place on Saturday, April 26, was also in Oman.
Sources suggest that the upcoming negotiations will take place at a high level, without the involvement of technical teams. In contrast, Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the participation of technical experts in the fourth round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States.
He emphasized that the composition of Iran’s delegation is designed to protect the country’s highest national interests.
He further added that this round of negotiations, like the previous three, is being held with the facilitation of the Omani Foreign Minister and with the participation of senior negotiators from both the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States.
“This round of talks will begin around 12:00 PM today in Muscat,” he stated, noting that Iran’s delegation includes a technical and expert team stationed in Muscat to provide consultations as needed during the negotiations.
Baghaei stressed that “the Iranian delegation, acting in accordance with the guidelines and frameworks set by the country’s decision-making authorities, will spare no effort to safeguard the interests of the Iranian people, defend the nation’s valuable achievements in the field of peaceful nuclear energy, and pursue the removal of oppressive economic sanctions and restrictions.”
The fourth round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States resembles previous rounds of negotiations, and Journalists are not present as direct observers.
